MRCO SECURES TACO BELL GRANT FOR NEW YMCA TEEN SPACE

Categories:
One of our local Tennessee YMCAs got a nice facelift recently, built bigger and better for the next generation. What we’re excited about is its
new Taco Bell Foundation Teen Center inside!

Our youth are our most important to protect. We’ve been proud supporters of a lot of nonprofits in Middle Tennessee that focus on youth.” -Imaan Ferdowsi, MRCO Partner

MRCO had a hand in making the teen space possible at the Brentwood Family YMCA (part of the YMCA of Middle Tennessee). After touring the newly remodeled facility and seeing what was being made available to youth who don’t have positive places to go to after school, Imaan says it was obvious MRCO should get involved.

Imaan and his brother grew up going to the local YMCA. He says it’s “part of our family story.”

The Y’s focus on providing a safe place for older kids to go after school aligns perfectly with the Taco Bell Foundation’s mission to inspire youth and fuel every young person’s boldest ambition to create good. We worked diligently to secure a grant from the Foundation to give this effort a solid boost. MRCO also pitched in financially to show our resounding support!

“We are SO excited about this partnership,” says Julie Sistrunk, Chief Development Officer for YMCA of Middle Tennessee. “The Taco Bell Foundation Teen Center is a huge hit and it’s getting a lot of buzz.”

About the Taco Bell Teen Center

The creation of the 1,300-square-foot teen center and adjoining outdoor terrace was part of a larger $25-million renovation project that involved the merging of two YMCA facilities. Today’s expanded facility more efficiently meets the needs of families and kids in the community, and a growing membership base.

The Brentwood Y renovation and expansion doubled the space for youth programming!

According to Julie, the timing of the project unveiling is important because so many of today’s teens are struggling with social and emotional challenges.

To Imaan, this is “about quality of life and their futures … that’s our mission outside of taking care of our customers and employees.”

The new teen center was built to be a safe, fun place where area youth can come after school for learning and camaraderie. With colorful lighting and lots of seating options — gaming chairs, lounge seating and even hammocks — it features dedicated spaces for education, music and e-gaming. Thoughtful indoor/outdoor design encourages socializing and outdoor activity, including access to a skatepark in spring 2024.

YMCA Teens Can Apply for Taco Bell Scholarships!

We’re so proud to be a part of all of this! In addition, we think YMCA youth are great candidates for Taco Bell’s Live Más Scholarship and hope to use this partnership to get more students to apply!
