Popular “Fastest Tacos” Contest Returns

Categories:

Kicking off the new year with some friendly competition, Georgia Area Coaches Tony Cunningham and Chris Angle decided to bring back some pre-pandemic team favorites.

Starting with our “The Fastest Taco Contest, which culminated with a mid-December championship round at our Sharpsburg, GA Taco Bell, the contest was open to any hourly Taco Bell employee at participating locations. Lest you think participants didn‘t take the game seriously, know that there were four rounds taking place across multiple stores!

“Our goal in the quick service industry is to serve food fast without sacrificing good service.” -Chris Angle, Area Coach

We are the only restaurant where our No. 1 item is in our name, Chris shares. “This contest is a way for our employees to want to get faster and improve upon their speed while having some fun along the way.”

The Setup

Once a competitor is ready, the judge starts the timer. The “race” involves a participant making one taco from beginning to end. The timer only stops after the single taco is wrapped and placed on the scale. Each team member participant performs this task three times; the best out of three times is recorded.

“It’s all about improving the culture in the stores while making the experience better for our employees and customers.” – Chris Angle, Area Coach

The Rounds

This heated competition has almost as many rounds as a seven layer dip! And theres more than just glory for team members who make it to the final podium. First, second and third place finalists all receive a trophy and monetary gift card.

  • Round 1: Employees from the same store competed against each other; the three fastest taco makers to advanced to Round Two.
  • Round 2: The top three winners from each participating store competed for the chance to advance.
  • Round 3: The top six finalists raced against each other to advance to the fourth and final round.
  • Round 4: The championship round where the final three participants competed for first, second and third place.

Race, Rest, Repeat

Given its wild success, Chris and Tony hope to make this competition an annual tradition. In fact, the hope is to we’d love to expand the contest to get all three MRCO Taco Bell markets competing against each other!
