THIRD TIME’S A CHARM FOR VANCE

Categories:

Three-time Live Más Scholarship winner Vance Lackey has become quite the expert at the scholarship renewal process. He’s just landed his third $10,000 scholarship from the Taco Bell Foundation

Vance is a team member at our Mount Juliet, TN, Taco Bell who doubles as a college student and esports (electronic sports) athlete. He says having an understanding manager and flexible work schedule at MRCO helps him meet requirements at Tennessee’s Cumberland University, where he’ll be a junior in the fall.

The generosity of Live Más funding has been incredible for Vance — he says it’s given him the ability to focus first on being a student athlete.

“I am just so unbelievably thankful to the Foundation for the continued support throughout these three years,” he says. “It has helped lift a burden both for my parents and myself [that] we were worried about, which is the cost of post-secondary education.”

Live Más Scholarships make higher education
more attainable for many, like Vance.

Congratulations also go out to fellow Liv Más winner and former MRCO team member Cherokee Anderson Hendrix.

DEGREE DETAILS

Vance continues to pursue his degree in information technology (IT) with a long-term goal of specializing in cybersecurity.

“I have always had an interest in computers and communicating with people,” he says. “The thought of helping people understand technology is what helps me continuing doing what I love: computers and communication.”

“School is going great and I’m having loads of fun.”

Vance expresses excitement about getting to take courses that interest him. One recent class, for example, fueled his fascination with data storage and learning how to protect people’s private information. He’s curious to see what opportunities may materialize from his focus on cybersecurity and esports experience.

“Esports continues to grow on campus as more people learn about it,” Vance says. Actively helping to expand esport awareness and offerings, he says he expects to see big changes soon in classes and Cumberland’s esports program

In the meantime, Vance looks forward to picking up additional hours at Mount Joliet this summer to help train employees. Do you still need a summer job?
